Bragging Rights

So today I have reserved the right to brag on two of my seriously TALENTED friends!

First, Kristin of iDoOriginals! We have been friends for almost 8 years and she certainly has a passion for all things wedding...and pretty! She is so creative and has been featured in many publications including the knot Best of Weddings 2009 and now one of her gorgeous parasols is going to be adorning the cover of Belle Magazine for December!! Congratulations Kristin!! I'm sure this is just the first of many magazine covers for you :)

Amanda of Dawn Correspondence is a great graphics artist and one of my new found etsy friends. We actually met at the recent craft fair we both attended and became fast friends. We even are planning some joint creative fabulousness in the future so be sure to tune in later for that! This Sunday some of Amanda's wonderful work is going to be featured in swag bags at the American Music Awards! Seriously, how many artists get to say that celebrities got to take home some of their work at a major event???!!! Congratulations Amanda!! Soon we will be seeing Carrie Underwood with some of your beautiful correspondence and no longer will Hallmark be the only famous card seller! ;)

DIY Day

DIY Day - Body Scrub!!! You need only four ingredients to make these moisturizing exfoliants. The base can be made from either Epsom salts or sugar, depending on whether you want a large or fine grain. Color the scrubs with shades that are in keeping with some of the scents you use -- pink with grapefruit, for example, or green with eucalyptus. Makes about 2 1/3 cups.

Tools and Materials
2 cups Epsom salts, organic cane sugar, or regular cane sugar
1 cup oil (Jojoba, Almond, Grapeseed, Olive, Sunflower)
8 drops essential oil(s)
1 drop food coloring
Special equipment: glass jars

Directions
1. Stir together Epsom salts or sugar and oil in a bowl, mixing well.
2. Using a dropper, add essential oil, 1 drop at a time. Add food coloring, and stir until color is even throughout. Spoon into glass jars (preferably with a seal).
3. Make and cut out pretty labels, and affix to clean jars. Enjoy!

DIY Day

This is the first in a series of how-to's for DIY holiday gifts! With the holidays fast approaching many of us are feeling the strain of the economy and trying to figure out more economical alternatives to gift giving. These options will not only allow you to save money but also give someone a personal gift that you will be proud to say you did on your own. So without further ado our first DIY project is Felted Soap!

This idea was given to me by Family Fun Magazine. Materials you will need for this project:
  • Wool batting or roving
  • Round or oval bar of soap
  • Pantyhose

How to's:

  1. Pull, don't cut, tufts of wool fiber from your batting or roving. Spread them out in several thin, crisscrossing layers about twice as large as your bar of soap. (Oval or round soaps work best.)
  2. Wrap the bar with the wool layers so that it's entirely covered. Add a stripe in a contrasting color, if desired.
  3. To keep the wool in place, put the wrapped bar in the toe of a pair of pantyhose.
  4. Dip the wrapped bar into a bowl of hot water.
  5. Gently pat the wool all over the bar. When suds start appearing, remove the bar from the hose.
  6. Continue to gently pat and squeeze the wool over the bar. Dip it in the hot water when it gets too sudsy.
  7. To see if the wool is completely felted, try the pinch test: if the fibers easily separate from the bar of soap, it's not done. When the felt feels solid, rinse the bar in cold water, squeeze it in a towel, and set it aside. The wool will shrink up a bit more as it dries.

Now if you aren't adventurous enough to try this project or you just like to buy from some fabulous artisans than may we suggest a few of our favorite etsians!

Rings and Craft Fair

Meet our newest additions...RINGS! I spent the last two days photographing, editing and listing these guys and I am glad to say that is done and I even sold two of them already! :) Here are a few of my favorites, but you can view them all in my shop.

These are a few pictures from my first craft fair (please excuse the lighting...it was in a gym). I had a great time and I feel like my first craft fair was a pretty big success. Hopefully next time I go to a craft fair it will be Amanda and I from Dawn Correspondence putting together a table.

Exhausted!!!

But so worth it!!! I had the pleasure of being included in the Steward School Spartafest Bazaar the last three days and I had a wonderful time. Sales were good, especially for a first timer. I did come home with a good bit of inventory that I will keep me busy for the next week photographing. I also met some very fabulous people this weekend including my new wonderful friend Amanda from Dawn Correspondence. Amanda and her mom, Rhonda, kept me entertained for the three days and I am so glad I made such a wonderful new business connection and friend. I am hoping that in the future there will be some collaborating going on between us. :) Well, I am beat and ready for bed. I will be sure to post some pictures of the booth as well as some pictures of the new items including....rings and sweet hairpins!!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
